The Van Outreach program travels throughout Winnipeg, seeking out community members who may be at risk in extreme weather. Voluntary transport to MSP’s emergency shelter is offered to community members. MSP offers warm clothing, resources and harm reduction supplies. The Van Outreach Program also follows up with support for individuals living in encampments and conducts wellness checks.</div><div><br></div><div>The Van Outreach Support Worker maintains the core values of MSP regarding harm reduction, choice, equity, and diversity and encourages individuals in capacity building. The Integrated Support Worker will work with MSP clients in a manner that encourages self-awareness, self-worth, increased independence, and without judgment.&nbsp;&nbsp;</div><div><br></div><div>During winter, MSP operates an additional van to ensure folks who are houseless have additional outreach and support throughout the extreme weather conditions. These term positions will focus on supporting this initiative.</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div><b>Key Responsibilities</b></div><div>•<span> </span>Ensure that community members’ immediate needs are met through the provision of food, shelter, clothing, harm reduction, and personal hygiene supplies</div><div>•<span> </span>Assist participants in planning, problem-solving, and addressing immediate needs</div><div>•<span> </span>Drive and operate MSP’s Outreach Vans</div><div>•<span> </span>Provide transport to community members as required</div><div>•<span> </span>Respond to emergency situations, assessing, intervening, and documenting critical incidents</div><div>•<span> </span>Monitor the physical safety of clients to ensure the client receives medical attention for physical injuries, either through on-site basic First Aid, transportation to the hospital, or request for a non-emergency ambulance (depending on severity)</div><div>•<span> </span>Respond to services requests from first responders, business owners, and community members, City of Winnipeg, Community Agency or as directed by the manager.&nbsp;</div><div>•<span> </span>Visit new encampment structures, or areas being used as shelter. They work with individuals who access MSP services to identify, develop, implement and assess the self-identified goals of participants. Case managers work from a housing first, harm reduction and trauma informed lens to support people to find and maintain housing and to connect to primary care, income, addictions &amp; mental health supports to break down barriers and advocate for their participants. Relationship building is the key function of this team.</div><div><br></div><div>Referrals into this team come from support staff within MSP or external agencies. They are reviewed by the Program Manager and assigned to a case manager based on the space within a caseload, the acuity of the participant and their immediate needs. The Van Outreach program travels throughout Winnipeg, seeking out community members who may be at risk in extreme weather. Voluntary transport to MSP’s emergency shelter is offered to community members. MSP offers warm clothing, resources and harm reduction supplies. The Van Outreach Program also follows up with support for individuals living in encampments and conducts wellness checks.</div><div><br></div><div>The Van Outreach Support Worker maintains the core values of MSP regarding harm reduction, choice, equity, and diversity and encourages individuals in capacity building. The Integrated Support Worker will work with MSP clients in a manner that encourages self-awareness, self-worth, increased independence, and without judgment.&nbsp;&nbsp;</div><div><br></div><div>During winter, MSP operates an additional van to ensure folks who are houseless have additional outreach and support throughout the extreme weather conditions. The Peer is an integral member of the Main Street Project (MSP) team. Drawing on their lived experience of mental health challenges and/or substance use, the Peers assists others to gain a sense of confidence and hope on their journey.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p><p>The role of the Peer is defined as offering and receiving help, based on an understanding, of respect between people in similar situations. MSP Peers, work in different capacities, from Outreach Workers, Navigators, and other areas within MSP. All roles acknowledge mutual respect, and understanding of similar experience will engage community member n making an informed decision, to promote a sense of safety and well-being for the community.&nbsp;</p><p>The Peer Outreach Worker is a role within Main Street Project that focuses on building relationships and rapport with the community member living unsheltered in Winnipeg. This includes understanding the community needs, what services they require, and identity challenges along the way. Our services focus on harm reduction and are free and accessible to all, without requiring abstinence or sobriety.</p><p>The shelter provides food, beverages, safe access to bathrooms and showers, harm reduction supplies, clothing, and safe daytime sleeping spaces, especially during extreme weather. The Van Outreach program seeks out community members at risk, offering voluntary transport to shelter, warm clothing, resources, harm reduction supplies, wellness checks, and ongoing support for those living in encampments. During winter, additional vans operate to increase outreach and support for houseless individuals.</p><p>The Casual Float Support Worker provides flexible coverage across these programs, offering break coverage and extra support as needed. This role assists participants with daily needs, crisis response, eviction prevention, harm reduction, and capacity building. A valid driver’s license is considered a strong asset for this position</p><p>Float Support Workers collaborate with participants to promote self-awareness, self-worth, increased independence, and well-being in a safe, respectful, and non-judgmental environment.
